About me - Daryl Smart
Hello! I’m Daryl Smart, the founder of LearningToFly.com.au, and I’m delighted to welcome you to this platform. As a retired Australian pilot, my career in aviation has been a lifelong passion and a rewarding journey.
My own path into the skies began like many others — with plenty of study and ten hours of flight instruction leading up to my first solo flight. It was a thrilling start, but I knew it was just the beginning. Fuelled by passion and determination, I pursued and achieved my Commercial Pilot License (CPL) during an intensive live-in course.
The skies beckoned me further, and I soon added senior commercial accreditation, an instrument rating, a twin-engine rating, and an instructor rating to my qualifications. For three years, I had the pleasure of sharing my knowledge as a pilot instructor, helping mould the next generation of aviators. From there, my journey led me to charter flights and eventually to a role as a senior pilot with Coastwatch Australia, culminating in my promotion to Chief Pilot.
Today, my love for aviation continues, but in a different vein. Combining my extensive flying experience with digital marketing skills, I’ve created LearningToFly.com.au. My mission is to simplify your journey into aviation by connecting you with the right instructors or flight schools for your flying goals.
